Your Consent for the READCO-AI Project

Hello! Thank you for participating in the READCO-AI (Reading Competences with AI) project, which is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. 🇪🇺

What is this project about?

The goal of READCO-AI is to help university students improve their reading, critical thinking, and digital literacy skills. We are testing an innovative AI tool that uses a "Socratic dialogue" to help you engage more deeply with academic texts—the stories you read.

What will I have to do?

You will have a text-based chat with an AI for about 30-45 minutes. We'll provide a text story for you to discuss with the chatbot.

What information will be collected?

The only data we will collect is the transcript of your conversation with the AI. We will make sure your name or any other direct personal information is not attached to this transcript. It will be completely anonymous to the research team.

⚠️ This is the most important part: How will my data be used?

Your data is used in two separate ways, and it's essential you understand both:

1. For Our Research (The READCO-AI Project):

  • Our university research team will analyze the anonymous conversations to understand how well the AI tool helps students.
  • We will use our findings in academic reports and publications to improve and evaluate this teaching method. Your conversation will always be anonymous in our work.

2. By the AI Service Provider:

  • To make the chatbot work, your conversation is sent to the commercial company that built it.
  • They will likely use your conversation to help train and improve their future AI products.

What does "training their AI" mean for my data?

It means your conversation becomes a permanent part of the massive pool of information the AI learns from. Because of this, we cannot ask the company to find and delete your specific conversation later on. It's like trying to remove a single drop of water from a swimming pool.

What are my rights?

  • Your participation is completely voluntary. You can stop at any time without any issues.
  • You can ask us to delete your conversation from our research records before we complete our analysis.
  • However, as explained above, we cannot delete the data from the AI company's systems.
